Harris to become the new leader in cloud-based broadcast tech?

Maybe! Recently, it was announced that Harris Broadcast would split into two companies – one of them called Imagine Communications. Imagine has wasted no time to launch a vision for cloud TV infrastructure & coined a new buzzword, as you’ll read below. The link is here:

Steve Reynolds will be Imagine Communications’ CTO. Recently, he unveiled two new flagship offerings: MediaCentral & MultiService SDN. MediaCentral is a cloud-based platform covering ad-sales, traffic, scheduling, automation, and playout. MultiService SDN bends the concept of software-defined networking (note to self, read up on this new buzzword) into software defined workflows – which seems a bit redundant to me, but somehow still works. Then they shortened it to SDW – I really do admire them for coining a new tech acronym.

The split was architected by Gores Group, the private equity shop that bought Harris in December 2012 for $225MM. Those finance types are smart – smaller companies give talented people room to grow, innovate and deliver. Can’t wait to visit them at NAB.
